Assignment 1.1

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

News on Opening of Green Bay Library Becomes a Real Page-Turner!

Green Bay, WI/ Brown County/ July 1, 2016

Out with the old and in with the new, and the Green Bay area is ready for the big reveal. The library in downtown Green Bay has been in the books for over 65 years, and it was noted! At the beginning of his time in office, Mayor Jim Schmidt made it his mission to expand our library to exceed our city. And early this year he made that promise come true.

The land was purchased and construction began in April. The project, ready to be revealed to the community, in just a few days. The “new” library, which will stand in place of the old, will be tripling in size, which allows the space to house even more books and resources for everyone to utilize.

The exact expansion creates space in the millions for the new Library. 2.1 million square feet of space, which is mostly created by the height of the building, or in Green Bay, we could call it a skyscraper. 8 stories that will become the house of 1.5 million books.

To put those numbers into perspective that would mean if every seat in Lambeau Field was occupied, each person could take home about 26 books. The analogy isn’t that far off seeing the new library will continue to honor Title town by being named Green Bay’s Playbook.

The grand opening of Playbook will begin Friday, July 8 at 12:00pm. Families welcome to tour the building and take part in the activities surrounding the library. The event is free and the library is encouraging all to attend.

e. A charitable agency has just released national figures on the number of Americans afflicted with AIDS.
A charitable agency has just released national figures on the number of Americans afflicted with AIDS, we connect with Dr. Lang at Aurora BayCare Medical Center to hear what she has to say about these numbers.

2)Leinenkugels is interested in doing some sort of poll or survey that would generate media coverage. What would you recommend and why?
Leinenkugles is a well-known brewery in the Eau Claire, Wisconsin area. Their products are served at Lambeau Field and many other sporting events around Wisconsin. A way to generate media coverage using a poll or survey may be to create a video of their products doing a “cooler run” similar to the sausage races or bottle races highlighted at Brewer and Packer games. Leiny’s could create this video using just their products, example may be HoneyWeis, Summer Shandy, Red Lager. And tracking the purchases of these beverages throughout 3 months. At the end of each month post a video of the bottles racing to the “cooler’ and the winner at the end of 3 months, goes on sale for the entire month after the video. The video could be blasted on social media sites, along with a very close to home segment on the local news stations. This promotion will not only generate sales during the competing months but will encourage buyers to stock up while on sale after the winner is announced.

Assignment 1.4

1) You are new at a job in public relations. You have been taught to keep news releases factual and skip the hype. However, management wants you to "jazz up" the news release and say the new product is, among other things, "revolutionary." What would you do? Explain your answer.
Being new at a job in PR, and knowing that you must report only the facts when creating a news release I would do just that. I would explain to management that presenting the facts in a fun and exciting way is just as good as throwing in words that “jazz up” products. I would draft two versions of a news release, one being something very “jazzy” and one being the factual information written in a true, yet fun way. I would then take these to management as proof that you can tell the truth and generate hype all at the same time.

2) You are the public relations director of a repertory theater. The city editor of the local daily calls you and asks if you could send him 10 complimentary tickets. He explains that his wife’s family is in town for the weekend. What would you do? Explain your answer.
If I were the PR Director of a theater and the city editor of the local daily called asking for 10 complimentary tickets, I would have to decline respectfully. Providing these tickets would be somewhat of a bribe or “understanding” and this could ultimately tarnish my reputation in the long run. I would explain to the editor that I encourage him and his family to come out to the show, however they will need to purchase the tickets just like the other audience members due to the possible confusion of a bribe or deal we could have with the future spots my stories get in the news.

I LOVE your idea for Leinenkugle's. I think it's creative and plays on a Wisconsin type theme. It would increase sales for sure.

  2. For your assignment 1 about the library. I like your play on words and using Lambeau Field as a comparison is genius. Everyone who lives in Green Bay certainly know the Packers and Lambeau Field. Great job and very creative work.
